Sssend is a small messaging device for the coffee table. Friends can visit a website and send a text or ASCII graphic directly to the e-paper display in the studio. When a new message arrives, the device knocks twice on its own housing, then the display refreshes.
The housing is CNC-milled beech wood. The display is 2.5" e-paper, which doesn't glow — it sits quietly on the table like a piece of paper. An Arduino Yún handles the wireless connection. The website shows a 1:1 preview of the display, so senders see exactly what their message will look like and can for example play with ASCII graphics.
Sssend was built together with Jochen Weber and lived on our shared desk in the Berlin studio.
